Storytelling Workshops with Refugee Teens in the Bronx

Coinciding with Impossible Country, we worked with a group of refugee students from several African countries at Bronx International Community High School. In partnerships with therapeutic drama organization Creative Alternatives of New York and the International Rescue Committee, we used theater and therapeutic drama techniques to guide them through a process of sharing their stories with one another--discovering how their experiences bring them closer to each other and what they wish to share with the greater community of their school.

Filmmaker JL Aronson created a short film of the process. A presentation of the film, along with a live performance component, was shared with the entire student body and staff of the school in June 2009.
