WORKSHOPS & TRAININGS
Professional development and training for teaching artists of all backgrounds and levels of experience
Teaching Artist Group is available to help plan and facilitate workshops for conferences, trainings, retreats and other gatherings. Our facilitators skillfully guide participants from dialogue to action-steps on a wide range of issues. TAG helps artists of all backgrounds and levels of experience discover the elements of high quality teaching and learning in the arts, and find strategies to achieve it.
TAG’s core workshop titles include:

TA 101, our basic-training workshop, provides an introduction to teaching in the arts. Participants learn and practice effective lesson planning, classroom management and facilitation skills. An essential course for artists entering the field of teaching artistry.

Developing the Professional Identity of the Teaching Artist, our groundbreaking interactive performance workshop, helps teaching artists learn how to meet professional standards and facilitates a journey of professional discovery for artists of all levels of experience. Keeping the Art in Teaching Artistry offers veteran teaching artists who need to reconnect with their art a space to connect, create and collaborate with others. A true refresher course for the experienced practitioner.

LEAD FACILITATORS
Annie Montgomery is a career teaching artist with more than 15 years of experience. She directs new and classical plays for young audiences, and consults for a variety of cultural organizations including Disney Theatricals, (Out)Laws & Justice, Creative Theatrics in Brooklyn, and The New Victory Theater, where she is a member of the Teaching Artist Enrichment Team responsible for peer mentoring and observation. She founded Brooklyn Mothers & Artists Theatre Company, and has acted off-Broadway and in many regional theaters including George Street Playhouse. She earned an MA from NYU in educational theatre (‘06), and a BFA in acting from Boston University.
Michael Wiggins has been developing curricula and training teaching artists since 1996. He served on the writing committee for the NYC Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, and as a panelist for the New York State Council on the Arts. His list of clients includes the Public Theater, Carnegie Hall, the Park Avenue Armory, Brooklyn Arts Exchange, NYU Tisch School of the Arts, (Out)Laws & Justice, and the New Victory Theater, where he is a member of the Teaching Artist Enrichment Team. He is an adjunct instructor at NYU’s Educational Theatre Program at the Steinhardt School. Education: NYU Tisch School of the Arts Graduate Acting MFA Program (’98.)
